I’ve Lost My Hippopotamus

Poems by Jack Prelutsky, Illustrations by Jackie Urbanovic

This (April) being Poetry month, I was excited to see a book of all-new Prelutsky poetry. There are more than 100 poems and illustrations, in true Prelutsky format. These are mostly about animals– and I cannot imagine any reader would not laugh out loud as they enjoy this new edition. For example:

A centipede was thirsty
But to satisfy its need
It drank too much for it to hold–
And so the centipede.

My only regret is that the poetry section of our library is not circulating more and teachers are not integrating it into the curriculum as much as possible. This book should be a staple in the Prelutsky section of every library.
