Jinx

I love fantasy and have read so many excellent fantasy books that I had a really hard time getting through this one. It’s not well written, there’s not much character development and the story line isn’t smooth and flowing from event to event. It also feels like the author took ideas from various fairy tales and fantasy stories and tried to tweak it to be her own but it felt borrowed and not fresh and new.

That being said, I do think that this book would be good for kids who struggle with reading and aren’t up to the challenge of Harry Potter or Fablehaven. This story is simple and easy to follow and would keep a struggling reader entertained.
