The Truth About Twinkie Pie

The Truth about Pinkie PieWritten by Kat Yeh

GiGi is a 12 year old southern girl starting a new life in New York. She lives with her sister DiDi. DiDi wants GiGi to go far in life, so she pushes her to study hard…all the time. After their move, GiGi decides she’s going to live life more like she wants. On her first day of school, she follows her plan and makes her first friend ever, Trip. Over the course of the story, GiGi learns about love, relationships, forgiveness and most of all, herself. Yeh’s writing style is enjoyable and sprinkled throughout the chapters are recipes for tasty food woven into the story. The downside to this book, is that although the drama and uncertainty in GiGi’s life could fit a 12 year old girl, it is written more like an older teenager is telling the story; and important scenes really would be more realistic in the life of a 15+ young lady. Other than that, Twinkie Pie is likable and teens will relate to the desire to find your own truth.
