I’m All Wrapped Up! — Meet a Mummy

I'm All Wrapped Up!Written by Shannon Knudsen, Illustrated by Renee Kurilla

This book is a nice blend of expository text and narrative text. It explains the real purpose of mummies and their mummification process while still mixing in a bit of Halloween fun that is associated with mummies. Text is very age appropriate for elementary students. They become engaged with the narrative elements of the story while learning interesting facts about a mummy’s place in ancient world history. The illustrations are kid friendly, colorful, supportive of the text, and at times, funny. The book is organized into simple chapters with descriptive headings. Page numbering is advantageous for accessing specific sections of the text. Included in the back of the text is a fun writing prompt, which makes for an easy connection to writing instruction. The glossary at the back of the book is helpful for understanding scientific terms associated with mummies, although I think it would be better suited at the front of the book. That way the reader becomes familiar with the important vocabulary before encountering the words in the text. Excellent book.
