The Poe Estate

The Poe EstateThe Grimm Legacy, #3

Written by Polly Shulman

Sukie is still mourning the death of her sister Kitty when she and her parents must leave the home she loves and move in with her mom’s elderly cousin. Ever since Kitty’s death, classmates have been treating her like she’s different. Sukie can’t seem to find her place in the world any more. Things get increasingly odd when she starts seeing ghosts, finds a real, flying broomstick, and catches the attention of Cole, the cute boy who used to torment her. Shulman definitely has an original story idea here. It takes her awhile to get the story moving, however. Then things bog down half-way through as Shulman tries to tell and explain other authors’ stories. Young to mid-grade students will like the imagination in “The Poe Estate” but may be tempted to lay it aside before the end.
