The Doldrums is a humorous adventure story with some amazing illustrations mixed in with the text. The characters in the story keep you wanting to read more. Archer talks to animals that have been stuffed, and wants to be adventurous, but mother will not let him leave the house. Adelaide moves from Paris and has a wooden leg and a quite the story as to how she got it. Oliver is a shy boy who lives next door to Archer. The three soon become best friends and work together to find out what happened to Archer’s grandparents. The trio of friends form a rescue plan and work together to make it happen. This is a great adventure story that keeps you interested in all the characters while hoping they can overcome the obstacles and be successful with their plan. This title has several starred reviews.
