When Green Becomes Tomatoes

When Green Becomes TomatoesPoems by Julie Fogliano, Pictures by Julie Morstad

When Green Becomes Tomatoes is a delightful poetry book about all the seasons of the year. Julie Fogliano writes this in a way that is easy to understand by the young reader and yet is attractive to the older reader by the way the words stir the imagination as if you can feel the season she is describing. The illustrations by Julie Morstad add tremendously to the book. You feel as if she too had her imaginations awakened and her art captured these emotions on each page.

This is the type of poetry where there are certain verses you want to capture to memory and quote them aloud in your mind when you are outside and discover nature’s beauty all around you.

I found nothing distasteful or alarming about this book. Probably hard to read it all in one setting to children, but sections could be read and discussed during the different seasons of the year.

Great book! Worth five stars!
