These Vicious Masks

Written by Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas

Set in 1882 England. When her sister, Rose, vanishes, Evelyn travels to London, accompanied by Mr. Kent, to find her sister. While there, she meets recluse, Sebastian Braddock, who claims Rose and Evelyn have superpowers. As she delves farther into her sister’s disappearance, she realizes there are many more dangerous forces at work. What happened to Rose? Can Evelyn find her? Do the duo really have superpowers?

As exciting as this book sounds, it’s actually quite boring and takes a super long time to get into. The characters are hard to relate to and the plot has some holes in it. The plot has a lot of potential, but the pacing is uneven. Fans of superpowers and historical fiction, however, may enjoy it.
