Furthermore

Written by Tahereh Mafi

For 12-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow, there are only three things that are meaningful: her mother, magic and color, and her father. However, her father has been missing for almost 3 years and magic and color seem to elude her. Moreover, her mother, well, Alice feels like she would not miss her if she were gone. Finding her father will send Alice on an amazing and sometimes dangerous adventure through the land of Furthermore. Her companion and guide on the journey is a mysterious boy named Oliver who has secrets of his own. Can he be trusted? In addition, it will be up to Alice to hold on to those things she loves to make it through. Furthermore is a beautifully rich story with a wondrous vocabulary that is as full of color, magic and heart as the story and characters. I just found, when reading this book, that it was so clever and smart, and it transported me to this highly imaginative world. I loved the author’s style of writing. The New York Times said, “Furthermore is “a place so full of enchanting beauty and topsy-turvy adventure….Friendship, family and self-acceptance. What makes this book truly sing is the lush world Mafi has created, brimming with color and magic.” I whole-heartily agree.
