Echo by Pamela Munoz Ryan and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

When I’m Gone by Emily Bleeker and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

What is the best book you were required to read as a student?

I was a good reader as a child although I didn’t really catch the “reading bug” until junior high.  During my youth, I loved books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

What book did you hate reading as a student?

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

What is your favorite book to recommend to children?

The Giver by Lois Lowry, and the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems.

  1. I heard what “Where the Red Fern Grows” was about when I was young and vowed never to read it. I have kept that vow. Our students love the Elephant and Piggie books too.
