Mervin the Sloth Is About to Do the Best Thing in the World

Written by Colleen A.F. Venable, Illustrated by Ruth Chan

Mervin the sloth is about to do the best thing in the world, and all of his animal friends are trying to guess what it may be. Gazelle thinks Mervin is going to gazelle. A bird thinks Mervin is going to fly. The prairie dogs (which are hilarious and my favorite characters) think he’s going to dig to the moon. However, Mervin is a sloth. And sloths are S-L-O-W. Most of his buddies start to leave him, when he finally announces what he’s going to do–hug his best friend, red panda.

The book is really cute and it’d be a fun way to see what kids think is the best thing in the world, but it gets a little hard to read after the 3rd animal makes an appearance. Make sure you don’t skip to what you think is the first page….the book actually starts on the title page. The illustrations are fun and bright so they’ll hold younger kids attention.
