About the Granite Book Awards
The Granite Book Awards are a student-sourced book award program. Winning titles are determined entirely by the nominations and votes of students and staff of Granite School District. The GBAs currently include three categories: Picture Books, Middle Grade Fiction (roughly grades 4-8), and Young Adult Fiction (roughly grades 9-12).
Throughout 2013, please visit the voting page often to vote for your favorite books published during the year. Also check out the scoreboards showing which books have received the most votes to date. As the year progresses these scoreboards will become a great place to find out about the latest books that are being discovered and becoming popular at schools throughout the district. Voting on books for 2013 will close on January 31, 2014, and the titles with the most votes will become the winners of the 2013 awards. Voting for 2014 books can then commence immediately.
2012 Granite Book Award Winners
Here are the winning lists from 2012:
- 2012 Granite Book Awards: YA Fiction (Grades 9-12)
- 2012 Granite Book Awards: Middle Grade Fiction (Grades 4-8)
- 2012 Granite Book Awards: Picture Books
Note: 2012 was a preliminary year for the award, and the process for determining the winners has since been modified. In 2012 nominations were accepted from all students and staff for a portion of the calendar year, with books published in either 2011 or 2012 being eligible. Then committees of library staff and teachers discussed and narrowed the nominations down to the final winner lists. In future years the winning lists will be generated entirely from the open nominations received from students and staff throughout the calendar year, with no mediating committees. The final end-of-year tally of the student and staff votes will determine the winners.
