Pirates (Truth and Rumors)

This is a great book for any student that likes the subject of pirates. Life stories of many pirates have been told and retold so many times that it is often too difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction. This book looks at some of the best-known myths and legends about pirates. With engaging text and colorful illustrations the reader will be able to find out the real story on the life of pirates. On each double page spread there are answers to questions like:

  • Did pirates really bury their treasure?
  • Did they wear eye patches, hooks and peg legs?
  • Did women dress as pirates?
  • Did pirates force their captives to walk the plank?

Using their detective skills, readers will be able to separate the facts from fiction. Few characters in literature are more colorful than roaring, swaggering pirates, whose adventures have been popular with generations of readers. Real pirates did roam the seas for thousands of years, and sadly modern day pirates still raid ships today! Great book in the Truth and Rumors series. I would like to purchase the other 5 titles in this series for our school library; they will be a big hit with the students!

How fun and informative this looks! Every few years I like to do a Pirate theme around “Talk like a Pirate” day. This is a book I will need to add to our collection to pique the kids curiosity and create conversation…
