Wonderstruck

Selznick returns with a new illustrated hybrid novel masterpiece

Written and Illustrated by Brian Selznick

In Selznick’s new masterpiece the readers follow two stories, one of a little girl running away from home. The second story is that of a boy named Ben who has recently lost his mother and his hearing. Ben is curious about his father and decides to run away to New York. There he meets new friends, finds new adventures, and learns how to function without hearing. The two stories come together beautifully. The art is breathtaking and intriguing. Selznick will win awards with this book that readers of all ages will love.

  1. I ripped through this one over the weekend. Even though it has 600+ pages it is a quick read, because so much of the book is illustrated. Unless I read/see something better soon, I’m calling this one the middle grade book of the year. It’s a must have.

And since it’s so great, we have six copies to give away to schools (3 for elementary and 3 for secondary.) Leave a comment here by 7 AM 9/28/11 for a chance to win one!

  2. Brian Selnick has a wonderful gift for telling stories with words and pictures. The students at Rosecrest love The Invention of Hugo Cabret, and we would love a copy of Wonderstruck.

  3. This looks like a book the kids would love. I just tried to order it from Perma-bound, but they didn’t send it with my order. I’ll try to order it again at a later date.

  4. This sounds like a great book to add to my Quick Reads section. We have a large ELL population that pictures help with comprehension. I’m anxious to see this one.

  5. Okay, everyone who has commented wins a copy! Since only one secondary person commented, I’ll steal one from secondary to give a fourth one to elementary. Thanks for looking.

I’ve still got one more copy, it will go to the next secondary person to comment here.

    1. Thanks, Josh! I was hoping that’s how you would award the books. I know our students are going to love this book. Keep up the great work on the website. It’s a wonderful resource for us.

  6. This looks like a great easy read. It is hard to go wrong with this author. I have a group of high schoolers that love books like this. I think they will really read it.
