Follow Me

Written and Illustrated by Tricia Tusa

This is a visually imaginative, almost psychedelic picture book depicting a girl who gets caught up in the colors of nature that surround her as she swings on a swing set. It does do a pretty good job of visually expressing the euphoria of swinging, and of bringing attention to the many colors that surround our daily lives. To me the text is somewhat distracting from the illustrations, with an overdone poetic tone that mainly lists off colors that are already better shown through the illustrations; I would feel foolish trying to read these words to a child and would have a hard time doing it sincerely. Maybe a different type of reader could pull it off, but I doubt it. The text may be helpful for new readers who are still learning their color vocabulary; however, I think I would like this book much better were it a wordless picture book.
