Forgive Me, I Meant to Do It: False Apology Poems

Poems by Gail Carson Levine, Illustrations by Matthew Cordell

This book of poetry was inspired by another author, William Carlos Williams, who wrote a “famous” poem, “This is Just to Say.” I did not realize how uneducated I was with poetry, because I had never heard of this poem. I chose to review this book because I was very familiar with the author and it was listed on several recommended lists I had seen. My first impression was not positive at all, and it took me several times through this book to gain an appreciation of the humor inside. A different type of poetry, many have a twisted look at fairy tales that might put a smile on faces. The sketches are crude which actually add to the type of humor. “Forgive Me,” this book, to me, was just ok.
