Starstruck

Written by Cyn Balog

Gwendolyn Reilly is an insecure teen struggling with her weight, her family’s lack of millions of dollars, and her invisibility at school. Her single ray of hope is her boyfriend, Phillip P. Wishman, aka “Wish,” who has been living in California for the last 3 years. Although they have emailed back and forth and her boyfriend has professed his love to her, she still worries that Phillip will take one look at her and run for the hills. When the blonde, god-like boyfriend returns, he not only attracts all of the girls’ attention, but also seems distant and weird with Gwendolyn. When Christian, a creepy-looking guy and new employee of her parents claims that Wish’s weird behavior is due to his membership in an ancient cult called the Illuminati, Gwendolyn can’t help but wonder if the guy might be right. After all, Wish does have the organization’s tell-tale tattoo. Does Wish really love her? Is there a dangerous side to Gwendolyn that she should be afraid of?

A funny realistic fiction story for chick-lit fans. The characters are likable and entertaining. The plot moves moderately, but holds the reader’s interest. Readers who like mystery and humor with a semi-realistic plot will enjoy reading this book.
