Prince Puggly of Spud and the Kingdom of Spiff

princepugglyWritten by Robert Paul Weston

This book is a BLAST! Not only does it have a moral at the end, but it is funny, interesting, exciting, and all done in rhyming form. This is the story of kingdoms with such names as Spiff, Spud, Hip, Sleek, Swish, and, well you get the idea. Everyone is extremely obsessed with how everyone else is dressing. And if Ruby LaRue tells you that an outfit is “all the rage” then everyone must have it. Puggly becomes the prince of the muddy kingdom of Spud. Saying that they are not concerned with their attire as much as the other kingdoms would be an understatement. Puggly is invited to a “Grand Party” at the Kingdom of Spiff, and when he arrives everyone makes fun of his attire. His feelings are deeply hurt. But then Puggly meets Francesca, the bookish Princess of Spiff. Francesca would rather read than do anything else. Together, she and Puggly embark on a mission to teach the others a lesson. This book is so much fun to read. Not only does it rhyme, but the fonts change with the wording. If they are climbing a mountain the words will go up. If they are going to the dungeon the words will go down. It is truly a blast to read, and would be a great read-a-loud.
