Odd Duck

oddduckWritten by Cecil Castellucci, Illustrated by Sara Varon

The strong theme of friendship flows throughout this book, a beginning chapter-graphic novel-picture book. It is written in chapter format, with heavy illustration. The text is placed all over the page, sometimes in word balloons. I really liked the context of the text, dealing with two ducks, one who is ordinary-normal, Theodora, and one who is a “strange duck”, Chad. The illustrations fill the page and are a washed out pastel color. The message of friendship and differences resonates throughout this book, and the idea of being an “odd duck” might not be so bad after all.
