The Crocodile Who Didn’t Like Water

crocodilewhodidntlikewaterWritten and Illustrated by Gemma Merino

All crocodiles love the water — right??? This is not the case with the main “crocodile” of this story. He sincerely tries various ways to engage in water play so he can have fun with his sibling crocs. In reality, he’d prefer climbing trees to water activities. Finally, a growing tickle in his snout leads to a revelation as to his true character. Reminiscent of The Ugly Duckling and this year’s Beehive nominee, Ribbit, The Crocodile Who Didn’t Like Water once again illustrates why each individual should discover for himself/herself who he/she really is.

I just read this book aloud to a couple of my early-grade classes and it was fun to watch as they started to comprehend the not-so-subtle realization of the character’s true identity. They loved it! Illustrations are simple, yet eye-catching. The text moved with the “action” described on the page. Illustrations are simple, yet eye-catching. The text moved with the “action” described on the page. Our students and I love this book.

  1. Wish I would have seen this review earlier when I had more cash. ;-) I’ll put it on the list for next year. Thanks for the review. Well done.
