A Dance like Starlight: One Ballerina’s Dream

adancelikestarlightWritten by Kristy Dempsey, Illustrated by Floyd Cooper

A beautiful story of a young black girl in the 1950s who wants to become a prima ballerina. Her mother sews costumes for a ballet school and this is how the young girl, watching the other white ballet students, decides that this is what she wants to do too! She thinks that her dream will never come true until she reads in the paper about Janet Collins, a black prima ballerina who is coming to the Metropolitan Opera House to perform which inspires her to keep working to become one herself.

The illustrations are quite realistic and done very well. This story is perfect for anyone who needs encouragement to make their dreams come true.
