Extraordinary Jane

ExtraordinaryJaneWritten and Illustrated by Hannah E. Harrison

Jane was just Jane, an ordinary dog. She wasn’t extraordinary like the rest of her family who have special talents for the circus. Her mother can ride on a horse, her brothers get shot out of cannons and her dad is a weight lifter. All the other animals at the circus have special abilities as well. Jane is just a regular pet to the Ringleader.

This book has beautiful, colorful illustrations that are bright, colorful and really show the range of emotions on all the animal’s faces, as well as the Ringleader. I love the end papers and all the clever circus posters. It is a book that plays on your emotions and makes you feel so badly for poor Jane, until the end when you realize, that you are not the only one who sees her cuteness and worth. This is my personal favorite picture book of the year.

Jane was just a dog. She didn’t do tricks like the rest of her family. She was just Jane. As hard as she tried to be like everyone else she was just Jane and that was OK. Jane was a really good dog.
