Meeting Cézanne

meetingcezanneWritten by Michael Morpurgo, Illustrated by François Place

A great family adventure, filled with beautiful illustrations that retell the story. As 10 year old Yannick leaves his mother for the first time, he stays with aunt Mathilde, someone he barely knows. Yannick’s mother tries to soothe him by showing him beautiful pictures that Cézanne painted of the countryside close to his aunt’s inn. As Yannick earns his keep helping his family at the inn doing various chores, he mistakenly burns a famous artist’s work that was drawn on the paper table cloth as a tip for a meal that was enjoyed. As Yannick tries to undo his mistake he meets someone he thinks could be Cézanne, however, turns out to be another well-known artist.
