Meet the Dullards

Meet the DullardsWritten by Sara Pennypacker, Illustrated by Daniel Salmieri

Mr. and Mrs. Dullard are very worried about their children Blanda, Borely and and Little Dud. The children don’t seem to be content with blank pages of paper—Mr. and Mrs. Dullard catch them reading—BOOKS! The children ask to go to school and want to play outside. To try and solve the problem, the Dullards try moving. But the new house has—horror of horrors—a colorful room!

It is very entertaining to see Mr. and Mrs. Dullard try to quell their children’s excitement and I really enjoyed the book’s sense of irony. The illustrations reinforce differences between the Dullards and the “outside” world.
