The Glass Voice

The Glass VoiceWritten by Olivia Snowe, Illustrated by Michelle Lamoreaux

The series Twice Told Tales takes familiar fairy tales and retells them with a 21st century setting. In The Glass Voice, Chantella (Cinderella) must endure the cruelty of her new step mother, Mara, and her twins. Her famous mother, known for her beautiful voice, died, leaving Chantella and her father to mourn. When he remarries, work keeps him oblivious to the evil befallen his daughter as Chantella is forced to become servant and maid. When a singing competition comes up, Chantella wants to audition too. But Mara makes it near impossible for her to attend and her only hope lies in her former nanny, Verna. Read The Glass Voice to find out how this familiar tale turns out, updated for the modern world. For readers who love fairy tales, this book and the others in this series are a perfect fit. Even though the stories are familiar, retelling them with a modern setting is a wonderful way to rediscover them. There are also mainly black and white illustrations throughout the story to visually compliment the text. I really liked this book.
