Mermaid Kingdom: Shyanna’s Song

Mermaid Kingdom - Shyanna's SongWritten by Janet Gurtler, Illustrated by Katie Wood

A mermaid named Shyanna’s father goes missing. Her whole family loved to sing, now her Mom won’t anymore. Shyanna decides to enter the mermaid singing pageant in hopes to win, so that her mom will have to come watch her and want to sing again. When the new mermaid comes to town, the best singer, will Shyanna ever bring singing back to her Mom?

I loved the message of the book. It teaches you that no matter what way or how you do something, there could be someone just a little bit better than you. But if you don’t make someone feel bad about themselves, you could grow to be very much alike. Friends, not enemies. I didn’t like some of the words that the author used. They were too simple. Plus, you never found out what happened with the dad.
