The Song of the Quarkbeast (The Chronicles of Kazam, #2)

The Song of the QuarkbeastWritten by Jasper Fforde

Foundling Jennifer Strange is the acting manager of Kazam Mystical Arts Management while the Great Zambini is caught in a temporal time loop of sorts. Being the manager, however, is not easy. Hired to organize a magical team to replace a bridge in Snod, the agency is up against their rival, iMagic. Too bad King Snodd IV is determined to control all the magic in the Ununited Kingdoms and has teamed up with the head of iMagic, the All-Powerful Blix. Whoever wins the competition will get to be the court magician and be the only existing magical management agency. Although Jennifer is perfectly willing to be fair about the competition, Blix is determined to cheat any way they can, particularly by making Jennifer’s magicians either disappear, turn to stones, or disappear. Add on to that a Quarkbeast on the loose who is causing mayhem and Jennifer has her hands full. Will Jennifer be able to save Kazam Mystical Arts Management? Will she ever find a way to save the Great Zambini? Will they win the competition?

A funny, light-hearted book despite some of the more serious story lines. The characters are well-developed and likable. The dynamic between them is unique and brings dimension to the plot. The plot itself is well-developed and engages the reader. People who enjoy fantasy, adventure, humor, and magic will enjoy reading this book.
