Jumping Off Library Shelves

Jumping Off Library ShelvesWritten by Lee Bennett Hopkins, Illustrated by Jane Manning

This anthology of poems has a library theme and a love of books. Some are free verse, some rhyme, they differ in length and style. They have beautifully descriptive words. They center about the love of books, the written word, and the library. These poems are a collection by Lee Bennett Hopkins. He has other anthologies and has written his own books of poems.

Jane Manning, the illustrator, incorporates a lot of the wonderful words in her illustrations. Her cheerful, friendly illustrations seem to have textures and depth. They also occasionally include letters and words as part of the landscape. The pictures really flow well with the text.

As you might expect, the readers will connect to some of the poems more than others. There was one that wasn’t my favorite, but I enjoyed the majority.
