Class Dismissed

Class DismissedWritten by Allan Woodrow

This is a pleasant book with a humorous premise. A teacher quits in the middle of a lesson and doesn’t get that message to the office. The fifth graders vote to keep it a secret and just take care of themselves. They end up working together to cover all the tasks the teacher would have done.

This is a sweetly done story that is wholesome and has a funny situation. It was fun to read. The kids have to problem solve together. They need to decide how they will keep their secret daily and on a field trip, and how they will prepare for a performance. They learn from each other and the community.

The different characters write different chapters so this would be interesting to share with young writers learning about voice.
