The Maloneys’ Magical Weatherbox

The Maloneys' Magical WeatherboxWritten by Nigel Quinlan

The Maloneys’ Magical Weatherbox is about a family who lives in the middle of Ireland. They run a bed and breakfast place. However, the real story is about the weather and the Weatherman. Mr. Maloney is the Weatherman. Outside the bed and breakfast there is an old-fashioned telephone box and four times a year the phone rings. That is the signal to change seasons. After one summer of extreme weather, the phone fails to ring. What has happened to the seasons? Neil and Liz, two of the siblings try to find out. I was excited to read the book because my dad gathered weather data when I was growing up. I like the idea of weather being magical and coming through a phone box, but I didn’t like the swearing. Everyone swears including children.
