A Fine Dessert

A Fine DessertFour Centuries, Four Families, One Delicious Treat

Written by Emily Jenkins, Illustrated by Sophie Blackall

Within the span of 300 years the recipe for making Blackberry Fool progresses from 1710 England to 2010 California. There is a recipe and historical notes in the back. I was interested in this book because my oldest granddaughter loves to make Blackberry Fool. This book is fun to read as well as look at the changes in people and technology preparing the dessert. From only the boys and men having the privilege of eating the dessert made by mothers and daughters, to everyone eating the fool made by father and son, this book definitely shows how times change. I liked the added insight from the historical notes. Some great discussions could come from this book. But the one thing that didn’t change is that people have the same urge to lick the bowl!!
