The Bear Report

The Bear ReportBy Thyra Heder

Just wanting to get her assignment done, a little girl quickly writes down three things about polar bears without giving any thought or research to it. One that she scribbles down is “they are mean.” Suddenly she hears “I’m not mean,” and then, with the help of a kind and patient polar bear named Olafur, they take an arctic journey to learn the true facts. I think this is a wonderful picture book, both in its creative story and in its soft, blue hues of illustration- perfect for the Arctic setting. This book could be used as an introduction to writing research papers and how important it is to do the research to get the facts.
