The Iliad

The IliadWritten by Gillian Cross, Illustrated by Neil Packer, Adapted from Homer

The classic story of The Iliad is retold by Gillian Cross. Homer’s classic tale is pretty much summarized from apple to Trojan Horse.

This retelling of the Iliad is more like a 150 page picture book than a graphic novel. The illustrations help to depict the violence and irony that is the Iliad. The writing is a bit choppy and tells more than it shows the story. All but the best readers will find the story slightly difficult to follow, although it is much shorter and easier than the original text. In addition, readers will find it difficult to understand if they don’t already understand who the Gods and Demi-Gods are, along with their backstories.
