The setting is a plantation in Maryland, and Sarah, a slave, has discovered that her master is going to sell her brother Jesse. Wheat as a crop does not need as many slaves as working cotton. Sarah does not want to be separated from her brother. Her mother has died and their father had escaped earlier. They have not heard from him since. Sarah decides that it is time to escape, but she doesn’t know what to do. Ranger, a golden retriever and time traveler, appears. Can Sarah and Jesse trust the dog and find freedom? I enjoyed this book and look forward to read the other books in the series.
