This children’s picture book is a fun tale about a girl named Swatch who loves color. From the picture of the author/illustrator on the back cover it seems as if it is somewhat of a wishfully magical semi-autobiographical story.
Swatch loves colors. She tames some by placing them in jam jars and saving them. She is still missing the last color – Yellowest Yellow. She finds it in growing from a crack in the sidewalk. She attempts to tame it by asking if it would like to sit by blue on her shelf. Yellow says, “No, thank you.” Swatch kindly does not snatch up Yellow against its will. Because of that kindness some magical events happen.
It is imaginative and was probably great fun to create. Hopefully it will inspire that creativity and permission to create in others. My first-grade students loved it.
