Hare and Tortoise

Hare is the fastest on the farm and is sure to win the race against Tortoise. Isn’t he? After all, Tortoise is as slow as they go. In Allison Murray’s retelling of a well-known Aesop’s fable, the story is fresh and witty. There is a surprise twist at the end that helps readers to remember winning isn’t everything.

I loved this version and its lively illustrations. First we meet Hare, or Leapus Swifticus, with a description and chart of his qualities. Second, we are introduced to Tortoise, Slow and Steadicus, and his very brief description that is funny. Then on to the race with a “Cock-a-doodle-GO!” I loved the farm setting, the charming illustrations and race course maps. If you are looking for a brand new way to tell the story of Hare and Tortoise, this is the book to read. The inside cover calls this book “an enchanting retelling with a mischievous twist full of fun and stylish charm.” I highly agree.
