Rune Germaine has been singing opera since she was four years old. She would sing while her father played the violin. Since her father died, however, she gets physically sick every time she sings. To help her with her affliction, her mother sends her to her aunt’s music school, RoseBlood, to help her overcome her issue. RoseBlood was originally a theater modeled after the one in Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera, but the building burned down and was partially rebuilt with funds from an anonymous benefactor. Once at the school she meets Etalon, a violin player. Together, they realize there is a lot more to RoseBlood than it appears. Will Etalon and Rune figure out what’s really going on at RoseBlood? Can Rune overcome her affliction and sing again?
The mystery takes a bit to build up, but the author pulls the reader into Rune’s world early on with her loveable, quirky characters. Rune is believable as a teen and is well-rounded, artistic, and likable. The plot is complex and interweaves romance, paranormal, school fiction, and elements from the classic The Phantom of the Opera. Fans of paranormal romance, mystery, and school fiction will enjoy reading this book.
