Unbound

A Novel in Verse

Written by Ann E. Burg

Grace and her family are slaves. Their masters are very mean and hard on them. Grace gets called up to the big house and is told she will be working in the kitchen. It’s hard for her to keep her mouth shut and just do her work. Then one day one of the slaves runs away and she is made to do his work of serving the master’s meal also. She overhears her master say that they have to sell some slaves to buy a good slave to take the place of the runaway. She hears that her mother and two brothers are the ones they are going to sell. She thinks it is all her fault because they said she needed to learn a lesson. They must get away and it must be tonight. With the help of others they are on their way to freedom. It’s a great book If you like Inside Out and Back Again I think you will enjoy this as well.
