Jess’s Story

Backyard Witch, #2

Written by Christine Heppermann and Ron Koertge, Illustrated by Deborah Marcero

Jess is an interesting girl but her family life is a little hectic. Her dad is away playing sports and mom wants to be a chef. (The food she cooks is disgusting, according to Jess). Her regular babysitter can’t make it so Ms. M is here to fill in. Ms. M is full of surprises and magical fun. At first Jess is not happy with this arrangement, but Ms. M turns out to be a great friend and teacher. I loved the story, it touches on a lot of family emotions and Ms. M helps Jess to realize that her moms a pretty great person.
