By the Book: Jody Noakes, Jim Bridger Elem.

Jody has been a media clerk at Jim Bridger Elementary for seven years. She has worked hard to create reading incentives for the entire school and her enthusiasm for reading is contagious.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. Everything I have been reading lately is for our Battle of the Books!

What was the last great book you read?

The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. Loved it from the first paragraph!

The last book that made you cry?

The Honest Truth by Dan Gemeinhart. Someone close to me recently passed away from cancer. Can’t imagine losing a child… Got a small glimpse into feelings that a person dying might have and not wanting to be a burden on loved ones.

The last book that made you laugh?

Little Red’s Riding ‘Hood by Peter Stein. Loved the characters portrayed by trucks- so cute!

What kind of reader were you as a child? What childhood books and authors stick with you the most?

I was sporatic…just like now! I tend to want to start something and go straight through to the end, so I have to have enough time set aside! My childhood favorites were James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl (stayed up all night for that one), the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

What is the best book you were required to read as a student?

The one that I remember the clearest was The Pearl by John Steinbeck. We had a great discussion on this book, which made me like it.

What book did you hate reading as a student?

I don’t remember the name of the book, but it was about Jewish culture, and I didn’t understand it…no fun!

What is your favorite book to recommend to children?

Picture Books- Pete the Cat by James Dean, because it’s all good!

Fiction- Wendy Mass and Shannon Hale book for girls and Where the Red Fern Grows or Shiloh for the boys

If you could only bring three books to a desert island, which would you pack?

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and A Lantern in Her Hand by Bess Streeter Aldrich
