Hattie & Hudson

By Chris Van Dusen

I am a huge fan of Chris Van Dusen. I love all of his books. I was soooo excited to see a new release and was thrilled to find it as a review book. Many of his other books rhyme, which I love for read-alouds. This one does not rhyme. I love the retro feel to the illustrations. The story is nice about a girl and a lake monster. I was hoping for a more original story. It reminded me of the stories of Loch Ness and Tahoe Tessie. I do agree with the author, that it would be wonderful to spend a summer day on a lake looking for a friendly monster.

  1. I love Chris Van Dusen books too and have this one on hold at the county library to take a look at. Thank you Pam for your review to let me know more about it. I would want to spend the summer with a friendly lake monster too!!

  2. Also a lover of Chris Van Dusen books. I’m sure many kids would want to spend their summer doing exactly that — monster watching! I’m like you, Renee, I like to put the books on hold at the public library to preview first.
