Out of Wonder

Poems Celebrating Poets

Written by Kwame Alexander with Chris Colderley and Marjory Wentworth, Illustrated by Ekua Holmes

Be still my heart! I’m a big fan of Kwame Alexander (anyone who can get boys excited to read a novel in verse is a superhero) so I was excited to read this book of his. The book is a collection of poems written by Kwame Alexander with Chris Colderley and Marjory Wentworth. These three poets write original poems in the style of various poets such as Robert Frost, e.e. cummings, Langston Hughes, Walter Dean Meyers, Emily Dickinson, etc. It’s full of a wide range of poets and styles. The book is divided into 3 parts, with a beautiful introduction to each part. The illustrations are gorgeous…bright and colorful, matching the style of each poem. It is a delight to read through. I am so excited to feature this book next year for poetry month in April!
