Bloom

Written by Deborah Diesen, Illustrated by Mary Lundquist

I personally loved this story of a mother and daughter planting spring bulbs in the fall. I remember doing this as a child too. This story is told through the passage of time as bulbs are planted in the fall. It follows the child’s different activities and accomplishments as the bulbs sleep during the winter and emerge in the spring. It is a story of love between a mother and daughter and also quietly shows family diversity in its illustrations. This would be a great book to read in the fall and as a follow-up in the spring.
