Molly is a foster child and has been moved from one foster home to another. She steals a book from the library and is forced to do community service. Molly helps an older woman clean out her attic, but she soon finds that Vivian is not like the other adults in her life. Vivian actually listens to Molly. As Molly is cleaning out boxes she discovers that her life as a foster child is very similar to that of Vivian. Vivian, like Molly, was an orphan, an Irish immigrant whose family died in an apartment fire. Vivian was sent on a train to the Midwest, with hundreds of other children, to be adopted.
This book is a young reader’s addition of the book Orphan Train. It is an excellent book and the students will get caught up in the intertwining stories of Molly and Vivian.
