The Hero Two Doors Down

Based on the True Story of Friendship Between a Boy and a Baseball Legend

Written by Sharon Robinson

Based on a true story, Sharon Robinson tells of how a friendship evolved between a young boy, Steve, and her father, Jackie Robinson.
The Robinsons move in two houses down from Steve, and Steve can hardly contain himself. He’s an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and their new player, Jackie Robinson. Once he finally gets to meet his hero, Steve and his family develop a lifelong relationship with Jackie and his family.
The dialogue feels a little forced and not quite as natural as could be, but it’s a great story. Anyone who is a baseball fan will appreciate it. There are also some wonderful lessons to learn regarding not only race discrimination, but also religious discrimination, as Steve’s family is Jewish.
