Joplin, Wishing

Written by Diane Stanley

Joplin lives with her mother and her mom’s friend in an apartment in New York. Joplin is teased and bullied at school, which makes her feel lost and alone. Along with loneliness, she is grieving the loss of her beloved grandfather. While going through her grandfather’s belongings she comes across a broken platter. Joplin puts the pieces together and hangs the platter in her room.
There is a girl on the platter that she wishes she could be friends with. The girl comes to life and introduces herself as Sophie. Meanwhile, Joplin befriends a boy at school, his name is Barrett. With two new friends, they venture to show Joplin what friendship means.
