Toad on the Road

A Cautionary Tale

Written and Illustrated by Stephen Shaskan

Toad is just sitting in the road, staring at a fly. A bear, a vole, and a croc all have to swerve their vehicles in order to not run him over. Each animal says the same thing, “What would your mama say?” The last animal to drive her vehicle down the road is his mama and what she tells him is very sweet.

This book doesn’t have much to it, and there’s not a lot of different words. It’d be great for an emerging reader and someone who does better with reading the same thing over and over again. I think this would be one of those stories that you could make a fun activity out of and get kids really involved with it.
