Martina & Chrissie: The Greatest Rivalry in the History of Sports

Written by Phil Bildner, Illustrated by Brett Helquist

This book tells about the rivalry and friendship of Chris Everett and Martina Navratilova. It reads and looks like a picture book, with great illustrations by Brett Helquist (Series of Unfortunate Events). I loved that it emphasized that although they were the best in the world at their sport, tennis, they were great friends who respected and encouraged each other. It is a great story example of persistence and not giving up, healthy competition, and good sportsmanship. Bildner explains the completely different approach the women had to their game which may have been a reflection of the worlds they grew up in. I would love to see more biographies with this approach.
