Black Moon Rising

The Library, #2

Written by D. J. MacHale

Black moon Rising is the second book by D. J. Mchale of The Library. Having not read book 1, Curse of the Boggin, I felt a little in the dark. Then again being in the dark while reading a chilling mystery involving witches, black moons, time travel, spooky librarians, and teenagers might be quite appropriate.

Marcus and his two best buddies, Lu and Theo, have access to a heavy, old-fashioned brass key that allows them to travel through a door into stories in the library. They travel to Coppell Middle School in Massachusetts where they find friends of their own age who are experiencing weird and strange events at their school. They would all like to blame them on the school bully but the school “know it all” Ainsley has witch powers that no one knows about, including Ainsley herself. The suspense and mystery grow in each chapter until the black moon is about to rise and the plot reaches a climax.

This book kept me interested until the very end. A good book for 5th through 8th Grade.
