Skeleton Tree

Written by Kim Ventrella

When Stanley finds a skeleton growing in his backyard he is excited to photograph it and enter the Young Discoverers contest. But as the skeleton grows, Stanley becomes worried the skeleton is the reason his sister is sick and getting worse. In the end, as Stanley’s sister’s illness becomes more critical, the skeleton ends up representing a cross between the grim reaper and an angel.

This is a story about learning to live with and accept loss, and about the strength of love. It is sometimes funny and sometimes intense. It deals with the subject of childhood illness and death in a way that is manageable.
